Our Osteopaths use skilled assessment, diagnosis and hands-on techniques to treat pain and injuries.
Applying techniques including soft tissue massage, mobilisation, stretching and joint manipulation, Osteopathic treatment can reduce pain and inflammation, release tight muscles and restore proper movement and function to the body.
Osteopaths treat the body as a whole with a focus on providing not only immediate symptomatic relief but also achieving long lasting outcomes.
Our Remedial massage therapists and Myotherapists treat painful, tight or aching muscles.
Remedial massage is a specific and tailored form of massage which focuses on restoring the function of the soft tissues in the body including muscles, tendons and ligaments. Using techniques including soft and deep tissue massage, trigger point therapy, stretching; all of which enhance circulation and promote healing of the muscles and soft tissues in the body.
Like remedial massage, Myotherapists focus on restoring function of the soft tissues of the body with the added benefit of being able to apply techniques such as dry needling, myofascial release, cupping, taping and exercise prescription.
Remedial massage and Myotherapy provide both short and long term benefits including reduced stress and tension, improved flexibility and better posture.

Recovery Pumps are cutting edge compression therapy currently being utilised by many elite athletes around the world. This approach is scientifically proven to be the fastest recovery method from training or game related soreness.
Controlled pressure is sequentially delivered via inflatable compression pants starting at the feet and moving upward, increasing circulation to the muscles of the legs. The enhanced blood flow flushes out any toxins that have built up during prior exercise, resulting in a reduction in muscular soreness and fatigue.
For the active person this means a shorter turnaround and recovery time between training and games, reduced risk of injury and enhanced athletic performance.
Recovery pumps are a great way to address general soreness for a range of sports including AFL, Soccer, Cricket, Basketball, Netball, Running, Cycling, Triathlon and Gym/Crossfit.

Sports Related Concussion:
With appropriate management, most concussions will resolve
spontaneously. However, it is common to experience complications that may lead to
prolonged symptoms and increased susceptibility to further injury.
It is estimated that 10-15% of athletes who participate in high risk sports experience at least
1 concussion each year.
What is a Concussion?
A concussion is a traumatic brain injury induced by biomechanical forces to the head, or
anywhere else in the body that can transmit an impulsive force to the head. This has been
shown to result in neurological impairment including a biomechanical imbalance within the
brain cells, resulting in decreased blood flow and temporary energy deficits within the brain.
Services Offered:
1. Concussion Assessment and Treatment:
Concussion can affect multiple body systems and may result in symptoms including
but not limited to headaches, neck pain, dizziness, fatigue, light sensitivity, tinnitus,
poor concentration and confusion. It is a complex condition that requires early
intervention by a trained health practitioner to ensure correct management and
prevent further injury.
At Osteopaths of Ivanhoe, we are here to help with both acute concussions and
persistent symptoms (also recognised as Post- Concussion Syndrome).
Assessment and treatment may include:
Exertional testing (treadmill test): To determine sub symptom threshold to guide
exercise prescription and return-to-sport readiness
Manual therapy for the neck and surrounding areas: Concussion and neck
injuries (whiplash) often go hand in hand and can contribute to headaches,
dizziness, balance disturbances and other symptoms.
Visual and vestibular rehabilitation: The visual and vestibular system are
commonly affected by concussion. Rehabilitation programs for these 2 systems
may help address dizziness, visual disturbance, concentration, memory issues
and other symptoms.
Education and reassurance: Concussion is a rapidly evolving area of practice.
Your practitioner will keep you up to date with the most recent guidelines and
step by step protocols to get you back to school, work or sport as quickly and
safely as possible.
Specialist referral and management: If necessary you practitioner may refer you
to a specialist to ensure you are getting the best resources and support as we
navigate your injury.
Initial Assessment: 45 minutes
Return Assessment: 30 minutes
2. Multimodal baseline Testing:
Multimodal baseline testing includes a series of physical and cognitive tests that provides a
pre-injury overview of healthy brain function. These tests can offer healthcare practitioners
with an objective benchmark on which to compare should a patient sustain a concussion.
As concussion symptoms often disappear days to weeks before the brain has recovered,
having valuable baseline information may help practitioners to make safer return to play
decisions.
Baseline testing is offered at the clinic or on site for larger school groups or sporting clubs.
