Our comprehensive pre-pointe assessment evaluates whether a dancer’s body is ready to safely begin pointe work and is conducted by a further trained and qualified Osteopath. The assessment includes a thorough medical history, postural evaluation, functional movement analysis, and specific assessments of the feet, hips and core.
This collaborative process between the Osteopath and the dance teacher ensures the dancer is supported in achieving their goals. Follow-up assessments are often necessary to monitor progress and ensure readiness before granting final approval for pointe work.
12 years is the minimum age recommended for pre-point assessment, in some cases a physically mature 11 year old may qualify.
Dancers should be training in at least 2 classical ballet classes a week and undergo pre pointe training for at least 1 year prior to an assessment.
With twenty years in the dance industry Osteopath Melinda is passionate about injury prevention for dancers.
